    Weekend 15/16 September 2007

Ohhhh what a Club we play for..............

After the PLR and U/11 winning their respective Grand Finals the week before, it was up to the AA2, AA4, AA6 and the old boys of the 0352 to keep the ball rolling, could Coogee come away with 6 Grand Final wins from 6 attempts???

It was always going to be a difficult task as both the AA2 and AA6 were playing against teams that were undefeated throughout the season proper.

On Saturday afternoon the AA4 were to be the first to have a crack, as I have mentioned before in previous reports, this team were battling away for the first part of the season, there were stages in the earlier days where people were wondering where the first win was gonna come about, there was no turning back as they strung together some impressive wins and were bound for finals Soccer.

The Prez unfortunately couldn't attend this match as his Cricket commitments had commenced. The text came through and the AA4 were victors!!!

An outstanding effort considering their start of the season...
Well done to all members of the team. 3 out of 3 for Coogee.

Sunday morning brought the AA2 together, on a bright sunny 9am morning the Prez and ex Prez and some old "Prisoners" were on hand to support the boys.

The opposition had not been defeated all year and were a little disappointed of not being crowned Minor Premiers! The match started at a frantic pace, the beer was flowing at a much more furious pace, this is absurd how can so much beer be consumed at this early hour!!! The call came from the RTO Muzza, make sure you keep those two pigs away from the esky, I bought those beers for the team to share after the match! hahaha too late me ole mate, so out came a whip around and off went TC to buy another case or two...

By this time the score was 1-1 then 2-1 or 2-2 who knows I can't remember!! I do know it went into extra time, well I think it did, no I'm sure it did... Anyway what I am sure of is that the AA2 had become not only Minor Premiers but were also crowned Premiers!!

What a great feat from a great bunch of boys, gonna be fun watchin you boys in 1st Div next season... 4 out of 4 for Coogee.

The Prez then had to leave cause he had a wedding to attend to, you can imagine what state I was in at 11pm that night!!

The old boys were next in line, as previously mentioned, I had to keep a lid on it as I thought that I had cursed the boys when I mentioned in one of my reports that the 0352 were my favorites to bring home the bacon, well after that comment the wheels had fallen off and the old boys were heading down the alimentary canal...

This was their 3rd Grand Final in a row after losing their first one, could they go back to back and the answer is yes!!! The curse had been lifted - I always knew these boys wouldn't let me down...

Outstanding boys, I'm so proud of you guys. Having played with this team on a couple of occasions I was so happy when I received the text that they had won... 5 out of 5 for Coogee.

Finally it was the turn of the Presidents AA6 team, I was gutted that I couldn't be a part of this match but I suppose I had to do the right thing and attend a dear friends wedding, its not every day that the Prez can indulge in free Crownies and $30 bottles of wine overlooking the Harbour!! Anyway enough of that back to the Soccer...

The reigns were handed over to the garden gnome - that's Mark Gannon for those who don't know, (a quick phone call just before the start of the match to remind him that we had won all our GF's so far and not to let the Club down might have been enough to rattle his nerves)... From telephone conversations on his starting line up I knew we were going to struggle against the Undefeated opposition... as I said to him, the team is in your hands don't spoil my good work hahaha...

From all reports it was a case of what could have been and what should have been and if the pope was a woman then he wouldn't have been the pope. For me it was the story of our season, there was not one team in our competition that outplayed us, it was a case of not finding the back of net and this is what brought us unstuck on this day...

To all my team mates, it has been a pleasure to be a part of the team and meet new friends, keep up the good work and plenty of GOAL shooting practice in the off season...

So came the end of the season for the Coogee and what a season it was!! You should all be proud of playing for the black and white, the might of Coogee. A special thank you to all the RTO's, without you this Club wont function.

The Prez's last words... I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
