Local football club Coogee Utd enjoyed one of its finest hours coming from two goals behind to defeat the NSW Police 3-2 at ES Marks Field on Sunday in a game which signalled the commencement of Coogee's 2007 campaign.

Played in stifling conditions the outcome was decided in the last couple of minutes with Coogee scoring a dramatic winner.

The event which was organised by Police Association of NSW Administrative Services Manager Raff Del Vecchio, who has affiliations with both teams, was played in a great competitive spirit. Part of the charter of the NSW Police football team is to foster relations through football and that involves getting out in the community and knocking a football around.

Coogee Utd President Tony Pengue said "I was really impressed by the quality of the football given it being very early in the season and that it was so hot. We would love to make this an annual event and would welcome the boys in blue back anytime"

In recent times the NSW Police have successfully won the Police Association cup by defeating the other emergency services sides in a round robin tournament and have played against sides representing the Korean and Vietnamese Communities. In April of this year they travel to Adelaide to compete in the World Police games where doubtless they will come across some fairly stiff opposition.
