U11A Grand Final Winners
For more photo's of the U11As, please see: :: Photo Gallery
What a result - from losing last years final in the pouring rain, to losing 7 players to reps, then re-grouping and forming a team of such greatness, is pure quality than any coach in his right mind would die for. I've worked with Supercoach Gannon for 5 years and to pull the strings of a team that on paper should not have even been a whisper of a final contender has performed miracles. A fantastic job and one that has set a trend for coaches coming through to follow in the club.
Anyone tells you that you have a team of superstars and are winners, let them come and see this team play. The Gannon factor is there in your face to see what one can do with 16 boys placed in their right position and what doing a "job" can do. It's not about individuals, and if anyone tells you otherwise, then move onto another conversation. Its about a group of young men that come together to work together, train together, hunt, play and die together.
Now I might be quoting from some movie now, but again, anyone that has followed this team will know that on paper, Queens Park are the Man Utd of the Eastern Suburbs. They have quality, consistency and great leadership. But on this day, it was about coming of age, of standing tall and showing the world that as a team, no-one is more difficult than the mighty black and white of the Coogee boys.
From going a goal down in the opening minutes, to drawing level at the start of the second half, we knew a game was on. Coogee then went ahead and with minutes looming, QP equalised. Extra time was called in. It was here that the fitness that was asked for during training proved why it was done. Let any parent ask the question why we do what we do during training and I will give them an answer. Our fitness levels proved the turning point. Our desire to not want to be second again was there for all to see. The winning goal came from an almost replica winning goal against us last year. Oh sweet justice! If Toyota was watching, you would have seen three manic men in the dug giving the "oh what a feeling" a chorus line.
Bloody Brilliant. Coogee United won the game in extra time. This report isn't about naming players, its about recognising a quality, a unit of one, the coming together of a group of strangers and working for each other. If anything comes from this, if any one of these young men can take anything from this game, its that of what its like to work and play in a "TEAM".
I hope you feel the passion here, because I'm re-living it as I write.
If we don't win another final with this club, I can lie in bed safely knowing that these boys are moving onto greatness in life, no-matter what...
That's my report and I'm the Simon Preston, "See you at the presentation."

Trivia Night
What a great night last Friday... so good that it has taken me this long to recover!!
The feedback from many was one of a fun time had by all. The main question on everyone's lips is how much did we raise...
A huge thankyou to everyone. It sets a new standard and a benchmark for next year.
A big thankyou to Andrew for the collection of all the gifts and a huge thankyou to Michelle who carried the flag and co-ordinated the running of the night.
It's a massive effort and anyone that can see themselves wanting to step up for next year and get more involved with the club and help run something like this, we could really do with a hand. Please speak up and drop me a line.
This Friday evening will be the last of our junior games. Our U11A play their grand final at Hensley Park (opp Eastgarden). Kick off is at 6pm.
On September 30th it's our final get together with the club presentation.
South Maroubra Surf Club: 11am - 1pm.
Then that's it for another year. For some, it's now indoor, others, just enjoy what you do over the summer months.
Hopefully we'll see you back for another winter extravaganza in 2008!!!

South Maroubra Nippers
Hi All, anyone interested in Nippers this season, please find below the following material from South Maroubra Surf Club, all the details are below:
Like all surf lifesaving clubs, South Maroubra holds junior lifesaving activities on the beach on Sunday mornings throughout the Summer lifesaving season. Nippers are an opportunity for kids to enjoy a run on the beach and a splash in the surf and to catch up with their friends. Of course, Nippers also offers those kids who are keen an opportunity to compete against athletes from other surf clubs throughout Sydney and NSW. South Maroubra proudly holds a long history of success at the highest levels of Junior Competition.
It's always surprising who you see down on the beach on a Sunday morning; friends from school, from swimming lessons, footy, soccer or netball. South Maroubra Surf Club is located in an area where the surrounding district is heavily populated by young families. As a result, The Club exhibits a family atmosphere where new members are welcomed and kids are not daunted by a heavily competitive environment.
Objectives
:: To teach our kids to be safe in the water through education, example and participation.
:: To ensure a safe beach and aquatic environment for our Nippers by providing a high water safety presence.
:: To continue to encourage competition in sanctioned surf life saving events throughout the season.
:: To encourage strong membership.
:: To have fun
In the main, Nippers at South Maroubra strives to provide organised sports on the beach and/or in the water for children from 5 years upwards who are members of the Club. Each Sunday during the Lifesaving season we aim to promote demonstrations and generally further the interest of the surf bathing and the Junior surf lifesaving club movement. We aim to arrange classes of demonstrations and classes of instruction to develop a spirit of good sportsmanship and citizenship amongst our boys and girls.

Indoor Soccer
Indoor Central is the largest indoor soccer centre in the metropolitan east. We run indoor soccer competitions for juniors and seniors (men, women and mixed teams).
Indoor soccer is the perfect tool for developing players' outdoor soccer skills. Due to the court size and low rebound ball the game promotes close individual ball skills and sharp reflexes. Players receive more ball touches and are constantly forced to make quick decisions compared to playing 11-a-side outdoor soccer. Indoor soccer is very popular in South America, particularly in Brazil where most young players were and still are brought up on indoor soccer before moving onto outdoor soccer.
Our 2007 junior competition is starting September 1st & 2nd. Last year we had over 100 junior teams in our Saturday and Sunday competition. This year we hope to start an all girls' competition which will be played on Sunday morning between 10am - 12noon. Age groups will be U10 (8,9 &10) & U12 (11 &12)
Competition Features:
:: All games are at Indoor Central on Saturday (U6 to U12) and Sunday (U13 to U16)
:: All teams compete in their own individual age group from U6 to U12
:: U13/14 and U15/16 age groups are combined.
:: Where possible we split the age groups into two divisions during the season to promote a fairer competition.
:: All games start on time.
:: All referees are supplied – no parents or coaches are required to referee
:: Game fees are paid up front committing all team players.
:: Trophies are given to the winners and runners up.
We hope to see some new teams competing at our centre in 2007. If you have any questions please contact Nick Hanna & Berni Henderson on 9317 5602 or visit: www.playsport.com/indoorcentral

The week that was... Saturday 12th May
With the tracksuits now handed out I can't wait to see the sea of blackness across the landscape next weekend. Some of the boys who had them on look great.
In setting up this club, we knew we had to make an impact on the association in our early years. Well by crikey, let the world know that Coogee United Juniors will be reborn once those tracksuits are donned!!
If you don't mind me saying so, I'm pretty proud of a few things:
1. The conduct and enthusiasm of everyone at the park on Saturday. Bloomin' brilliant
2. To meet up and talk to some of you was fantastic
3. To see the excitement and passion in many eyes watching the kids play was unbelievable
4. Can't think of anymore adjectives so I think you get my point!
Keep the spirit alive as this really and truly is "the beautiful game"
Moving On...
Some of you have approached me regarding the Trivia Night, again, please see Andrew on this one if you are keen to donate any gifts of any nature. Remember the date is now in July.
Back to my Reality Junkie Check Up with Chirosports
I received my orthodics on Friday so we should see over the next couple of weeks how my back and pelvic hold up. So far, you can really feel the shape of the feet as you walk around. Can only last a few hours at a time!
The back is starting to feel stronger and the sessions are just as intense. What is nice is that there is very little manual manipulation. I've been to a number of specialists over the years and I can truly say that this is a different experience. My fourth week is about to begin. How quick the weeks have flown.
I am still on target to reach a huge milestone of mine, that being to touch my toes and not wake up with pressure in the lower back! Not too far away!
Daryl loves the idea of giving me colourful flyers to read as he continually educates me in the meaning of back alignment. Unfortuneatly, the kids love the colour as well and is often found with doodles on the back of them...but they are worth the read.
Stay tuned as I keep you abreast of my life!
Thats my weekly wrap... see you on the park

Weekend that was...
A real bag of mixed results this weekend... some great wins and some losses. We take all with a smile and understanding that there is always next week!!
Keep the match reports coming in. I believe that these reports should be taking in the spirit with the intention they are meant to be. If like my U8, and you have a rotational system happening, that is, each week a different parent writes the report, then I encourage you all to be as biased as one could possibly be towards your own child!!! Its your moment... enjoy it... but remember the other kids as well. I will point out that I do have a rule, that being, that in each report the writer must state what a great job the coach did regardless of result!!
If you havn’t started the reports... shame on you and give your coach a kick up the backside.
TRIVIA NIGHT
As you will see, Andrew from U6 has started the process of our Annual Trivia Night to be held on July 28th. If anyone has donations they wish to contribute, please contact Andrew via email: pbrundu@optusnet.com.au
This will be a huge night where a massive target of fund raising has been set... We need all help to reach this. Remember that all the monies go back to the kids.
Enjoy the weekend – I will be at Heffron on Saturday wearing the bright yellow 'official jacket'.

Weekend Washouts
Well our first weekend of wash outs... not much one can do... if the weather ain't gonna shine on us, so be it.
However, for Sunday, a different turn of events. Our girls had a game and they turned it on with a 3-1 win. You can read the match report in the 'match report' section!
I must say what a true pleasure it was to experience something so genuinely "nice" Don't get me wrong, I love what I do with the boys, but with the girls it was an absolute different experience. One thing that did leave a sour taste was the real lack of back flips and somersaults after the goals were scored. I hope the coach manages to bring this into his 'formation'.
If you can support the girls on Sundays, I truly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.
For the boys and girls that got to indoor on Saturday, great effort. For future reference, yes we have to pre-book and yes we have to charge back to everyone. To totally cover the cost, expect to pay $10.00 per head.
Ok - C U on Tuesday as training re-commences.
Moving on... let me give you my weekly dose of 'Chirosports... a Reality Checkup'
I've just got through my first week of sessions, back is feeling mend like with a feeling of more work to come. I was given some new stretches and poses to put my back and neck through that raised a few comments with my boys, needless to say my stretches are done when they are in bed!
I had a foot scan that told me just how bad my feet are and how it affects my legs, that affect my back that affect my neck that affect me period! The scan will allow new orthotics to go in my shoes to help with alignment and keeping me on track. One that is long overdue. I should get these in two weeks and then we'll see what happens.
I must say though that after one session there was a noticeable difference, but more of a realisation that this is not a quick fix.
Again, the service is spot on with Jessie texting me to remind me of my appointment each and everytime.
So, that's week one... I leave you as I head to the wall to begin my stretches and look forward to seeing you at the Park. Feel free to call Daryl anytime as his number is on the bootbag.

Season Kicks Off
Well , week one over, done and dusted. What a great day at Heffron, for
the two teams away from home, we hope your experience was as good as ours.
A busy packed day, parents, coaches, managers and more importantly the kids all rocked up with big smiles on their faces. Certainly it was obvious Coogee United "Owned" the park. The black and white stood out. Fantastic.
The coaches and managers... great job, looking fantastic and at one point acting as "information clerks!".
The parents, wow... keep the cheering coming.
I maintain that a team that looks smart, plays smart.
He who dares wins. This club dared and boy did we win.
This weekend all our games are at home. If you want to lend your support, we kick off at 9am and go through till 12.30pm when the U11 play. On Sunday the girls play at 11am. For those that aren't sure who to look for...
- we're in black and white!!!

Chirosports - A Reality Check!
If you're like me, then reality TV has become a bore and has lost its plot, so what better way to beat the issue is to join it.I've decided to set myself up as the "Reality Live Chirosport Housemate".
It's a simple plot. Take one club secretary, add it in the mix to one of our sponsors; let the sponsor tell you just how bad your body is over a consultation; get you back in, relive your bad habits and get you fixed up... A simple process and one that I'm willing to share at a cost... that cost being... me!
Yep, went in, saw Daryl, spent a good 40 minutes testing me, had me undertake some xrays and this evening, he put me through his process of taking away the discomfort that I have been in for the past number of months.
The plan is now set in place, I'll keep you posted on my development. I have to go back 3 times a week for the next four weeks, after that, program changes.
Jessie greets you warmly at reception and takes away any anxiety you have and Daryl meets you with a big grin ready to work his magic... Stay tuned. My first session is over and my neck is far more mobile than it has been.

Easter Training Camp
Hi Everyone,
Just to quickly inform you that my mobile number has changed to the following:
0420 988 206
If you need me, feel free!
Also to prepare you, we are going to be looking at running a three day camp if all goes according to plan during the Easter holiday. A good friend of mine is coming out from the UK to place his mark on the club! We ran a light program last year to great success. He comes highly qualified and the kids will have a fantastic time.
This year we will be looking at a charge of $60.00 per child
For the U6 and U7 we will need a minimum of 20 kids from each age group with the session running no more than 60 minutes to make it viable. For all other age groups, minimum numbers will be determined later.
For all you parents that are totally in awe and new to this great game, we will also be looking to run a one off parent clinic where we will run a session for you to go through the basic skills of what your kids are going through. This will then enable you to have a better understanding of what we do and why we do things the way we do them. It will help you assist your child. The cost of this will be $20.00 and again, we will need a minimum of 20 parents.
If the interest is there, we will look to run more.
First in best dressed! Only children registered with the club can be involved at this stage.
I will update the web with more info over the next week or so to confirm times and dates and let you know at training and via email. For those that are interested, it would help if you could drop me a reply so I can begin formulating our program.
See you on the park

Training Update
Hi Guys – just a quick note that from next Tuesday, your coach will be in discussions with you to set the time for your weekly session.
Many of you would have received an email with this information - could I ask that if you know someone in the group that you remind them of this message just in case their email address bounces back to me? This could be a slight error in my deciphering other peoples handwriting, to which I apologise!
If someone that you know makes a comment that they never received this email, it will be because of the above! I then ask that you ask that individual to email me direct with their correct details!!
One last thing, if you are brand new to playing in this association, it is imperitive that you get to me by Tuesday a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a photo of your child. Without this, your child will not be registered in time.
U6: Training at 5.30pm
U7: Training at 6.00pm
U7: Raf’s Team - Training at 5.30pm

Training Update
So our first session out of the way, what a great turn up. We knew we had more kids but to actually visualise the park in the way it was, was truly a great experience. it will take a couple of weeks for everyone to get to know each other, that is the coaching staff getting to know their kids and you as parents coming to terms with the following training times. Rest assured that as coaches, we are also parents as well so we understand the role involved. You may find that we can train over the time allocated, that's not intentional, just the passion that comes through, if you need to go, go...
It was great to see so many parents looking to get involved, if the first session is any indication, I believe this club will just keep getting stronger.
So for next Tuesday the following times are set. This is also a good indication for the rest of the season so you can start your planning (my U8 will know that we will train earlier come season time). Your "team coach" will set his time once his sqaud is finalised.
U6 - 5.30pm
U7 - 6.15pm
U8 - 5.00pm
U10G - 5.30pm
U11 - 5.00pm
Now, if anyone has any problems please drop Alayne or myself a line. If you have not given us a copy of a birth certificate or a photo, you must do so, otherwise your child will not be registered in time for the start of the season. If any monies are outstanding, again this must be fixed up. If you have registered and not paid or shown up, your spot will go after next Tuesday if we do not hear back. Sorry, but we have to take this line as we have people knocking on the door to join.
All places are as good as full. Please do not bring friends to the park expecting to join if they have not come through me first. we are now compiling a waiting list as a precaution. We will finalise numbers next week.
Look forward to seeing you all next week and feel free to approach any of the team anytime.

Each team will require a manager, please see us on the day if you are interested in being involved in some capaicity as it is a tough ask fo a coach to do everything.
On the same token, the club is run voluntarily, if anyone has experience in any capacity that they feel could benefit the club, please come and speak to Mark or myself.
See you next week
